Sticky Vinyl Steering Wheel Fix: Lanolin

One of our associates was reading the June 2010 edition of Auto Restorer – The How-To Guide for Car & Truck Enthusiasts.  There was an interesting letter to the editor inside the magazine.  In the letter, the reader stated that the vinyl steering wheel on his 1975 Corvette  was sticky.  He tried every possible cleaner under the sun to clean the stickiness off of the wheel, but nothing seemed to work.  Then, he discovered from the National Corvette Restorers Society a possible solution:  lanolin!

The reader took a handful of his “…wife’s hand cream containing lanolin and slathered it on [the steering wheel], waited about 30 minutes and wiped the wheel down with a dry cloth.  Amazingly, it did the trick.  That was over a year ago and the wheel is still supple and dry to the touch.”

That goes to show you that lanolin is a universal product.  From lotions and bath products to sticky steering wheels, lanolin is a one of a kind item.
